Under-Eyes
Individualized evaluation of under-eye hollows, shadows, puffiness, pigmentation, and skin quality before considering filler or another approach.
Is every dark circle treated with filler?
No. Pigment, visible vessels, thin skin, shadowing, allergies, fluid retention, and anatomy can all contribute, and filler may not help.
Who may not be a good filler candidate?
Prominent bags, fluid retention, certain anatomy, active inflammation, or previous filler complications may make another approach more appropriate.
How long does swelling last?
Swelling and bruising vary, and under-eye swelling can persist longer in some patients. Final assessment should wait until healing is complete.
What requires urgent care?
Vision change, severe or unusual pain, pale or dusky skin, weakness, facial drooping, or speech difficulty after filler requires immediate evaluation.
Understanding Under-Eye Concerns
The under-eye area can look tired for many reasons: hollowing, shadows, fat pads or bags, thin skin, visible vessels, pigmentation, allergies, and fluid retention. Because these causes can overlap, an accurate assessment matters more than choosing a treatment from a photo.
When Filler May—or May Not—Help
Selected hyaluronic-acid fillers may soften the transition between the lower eyelid and cheek in appropriately chosen adults. Filler does not directly remove pigment, treat prominent bags, or correct every shadow.
Patients with significant puffiness, fluid retention, certain anatomy, active inflammation, or previous filler problems may be poor candidates. Alternatives may include skincare, laser or light treatment, collagen-supporting treatment, dissolving old filler, or referral for surgical evaluation.
What to Expect
Your provider reviews allergies, medical history, medications, previous filler, eye symptoms, facial anatomy, and goals. If filler is chosen, product, depth, and amount are selected conservatively.
Temporary swelling, bruising, tenderness, redness, asymmetry, contour irregularity, or prolonged puffiness can occur. Hyaluronic-acid filler is temporary, and results vary.
Special Safety Considerations
The under-eye region is anatomically sensitive. Rare intravascular injection can cause skin injury, vision abnormalities, blindness, or stroke. Seek immediate evaluation for vision change, severe or unusual pain, blanching or dusky skin, weakness, facial drooping, or difficulty speaking.
Active infection, inflammation, pregnancy or breastfeeding, serious allergies, immune conditions, and relevant eye or medical history require discussion.
