Skinpen Microneedling
FDA-cleared SkinPen microneedling designed to improve selected acne scars and wrinkles through controlled mechanical microchannels.
What does SkinPen treat?
FDA-authorized microneedling devices have specific cleared indications. Your provider will confirm whether your concern and treatment area fit the device labeling.
How many sessions are needed?
A series may be recommended depending on the concern, baseline skin, treatment intensity, and response.
What is the recovery?
Redness, dryness, roughness, tightness, itching, peeling, discomfort, bruising, pinpoint bleeding, or crusting can occur.
Is SkinPen the same as RF microneedling?
No. SkinPen creates mechanical microchannels without radiofrequency energy; RF microneedling is a separate device category.
What Is SkinPen Microneedling?
SkinPen is a motorized microneedling device that uses sterile, single-use needle cartridges to create controlled microchannels in the skin. The repair response can support gradual improvement in selected texture concerns.
SkinPen and RF microneedling are not the same. SkinPen does not deliver radiofrequency energy.
What Microneedling Can Address
FDA-authorized microneedling devices have specific cleared uses, including improvement in the appearance of facial acne scars, facial wrinkles, and certain abdominal scars in adults aged 22 or older. Exact indications depend on the device labeling.
Microneedling does not replace surgery, erase every scar, or guarantee pore reduction. Deeper scars or pigmentation may require a combination plan.
Treatment and Recovery
Your provider evaluates active skin conditions, medications, cold-sore history, pigment and scar history, and treatment goals. A topical numbing protocol may be used.
Redness, dryness, roughness, tightness, itching, peeling, discomfort, bruising, pinpoint bleeding, or crusting may occur. Less common risks include infection, pigment change, cold-sore reactivation, and scarring. Improvement develops gradually and a series may be recommended.
Candidacy and Safety
Microneedling may be inappropriate with active infection or rash, uncontrolled diabetes, immune suppression, bleeding disorders, blood-thinning therapy, recent isotretinoin, keloid tendency, certain autoimmune or pigment conditions, pregnancy or breastfeeding, or recent tanning.
FDA notes that microneedling devices are not authorized to deliver cosmetics, drugs, vitamin solutions, or blood products into the skin. Any combination treatment should be discussed separately, including its evidence and regulatory status.
